Those Darn Dots

After being so precise painting my own dots, it rather took me by storm to see the casual looking paintings by Jerry Zeniuk. The work seems to be more about color and spatial relationships than the shape of the applied paint. Raw canvases bear witness to strains and in some works it's evident that the marks have no respect for the personal space of other marks. His paintings run the gamut from dot paintings to lapping fields of color. An interesting and colorful oeuvre, indeed.

I'm not quite sure what to make of Ted Warnell; haven't really taken the time to research him thoroughly. But what I CAN tell you is that he makes fantastic art and you ought to check out his several blogs.

I don't know what it is about newspapers that attracts me as an artist. I've done many a "painting" using the NYTimes. So when I saw this and other sewn works by Lauren DiCioccio, well they're just plain impressive.
What's especially interesting is how the trailing threads and unfinished look are what really make these pieces sing. She provides a compelling Statement on her Website that's very thought provoking.

Polka Dots For Everybody

It's been around eight years now of searching the Web and yet I'm still amused/pleasantly surprised at the number of artists who incorporate dots into their art. Barry Reigate uses them in a shoot-em-up way on his exploded-cartoon style paintings. Visiting his Website just might induce giggles. And in these serious times it could be just what the doctor ordered.

Trompe l'oeil Graffigraphy

There is another whole art universe, parallel to the art world we're familiar with and it's filled with graffiti, low brow and street art. And those genre definitions are so encompassing (just like the term abstract) that we're way over due for subset classifications. I really am amazed at how huge, pervasive and entrenched this other "culture" is and admire the way it's growing and maturing. What's happening out there is encouraging and inspiring.

You'll be forgiven for thinking that the young man is standing in front of a wall sculpture. That's DAIM and that's how he paints. In fact, that's how he paints his name. Visit his Website to be educated and entertained. I personally, really appreciate the dates he's included in the Evolution part of the Wallpaintings Section. There's lots to enjoy here, including videos.  So take your time, snoop around and I'm sure you too will come to appreciate one of the young masters of this other art world.

This was supposed to be the next post because it ties in so well with the May 22 Post, but I got all wrapped up in getting ready for my show at the Watkins Glen Gallery . . . . .

Anyway, you'll want to read all about Klari Reis and her very interesting oeuvre. Her paintings are sumptuous and when you visit her Website, you'll be blown away with the bright clear pictures of her art Installed. (Her site takes a couple seconds to load.)
