More STEFAN ANNEREL

.
.

Got an e-mail from Stefan and he was very kind to send more examples of his work.
Born in 1970, Dendermonde, Belgium he now lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.
He's been in numerous group shows and had 4 solo shows in the Netherlands and Belgium with another one slated for 2008
There's something of a found object feeling to these paintings. Something about the highly finished and ornate surface, but maybe cut up or cropped. The shine and sheen is akin to what you'd find on a vehicle or a sports apparatus. And so it's intriguing and mysterious, yet almost familiar. There certainly seems to be a layering and I'm hoping Stefan will share at least some of the process with us. I believe that somewhere I read that he uses tape in these constructions of color. It certainly looks like that might be the case; using various widths of masking and packing tapes with color applied. The choice of palette is very appealing. And although minimal there's enough context to pull you in.
The top painting is titled "Spens" and the bottom work is "Bucham"
There are installation shots and images of his paintings in the Show Parallax at Galerie Smits.
